abstract

three iranian native strains and three japanese commercial lines of the silkworm bombyx mori were analyzed using amplified fragment length polymorphism (aflp) markers. a set of ten psti/taqi primer combinations amplified a total of 322 bands out of which 251 (%78) were polymorphic. estimates of nei’s gene diversity for all loci in individual strains and commercial lines indicated a higher degree of genetic similarity within japanese commercial lines than the iranian native strains. the highest and the least degree of gene diversity were related to the khorasan orange strain (h=0.1812) and p107 commercial line (h=0.0804), respectively. the dendrogran constructed using the unweighted pair-group method with arithmitic average based on nai’s genetic distance revealed two distinct groups as khorasan native and japanese commercial lines. the distinct clustering of these two sets of strains and lines reflects differences of the geographical origin and morphological, qualitative and quantitative traits associated with them.

Assessing Genetic Diversity in Iranian Native Silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) Strains and Japanese Commercial Lines Using AFLP Markers

Estimates of Nei’s gene diversity for all loci in individual strains and commercial lines indicated a higher degre...

Comparison of ISSR and AFLP markers in assessing genetic diversity among Nettle (Urtica dioica L.) populations.

Urtica dioica is an important medicinal plant which is widely distributed in Mazandaran province (North of Iran). In this study for the first time Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) and Inter-simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) markers were used for detection of genetic polymorphism in Mazandaran nettle. Ten AFLP primer combinations and seventeen ISSR markers were utilized. AFLP produced 830...

Assessment of genetic diversity in Iranian wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars and lines using microsatellite markers

In this study, genetic diversity of 20 wheat genotypes was evaluated using 126 simple sequence repeats (SSR) alleles, covering all three wheat genomes. A total of 1557 allelic variants were detected for 126 SSR loci. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 4 to 19 and the allelic polymorphism information content (PIC) varied from 0.66 (Xgwm429) to 0.94 (Xgwm212 and Xgw...

Inter- and intra-population genetic variability of introduced silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) strains raised in Bulgaria

Article info: Received: 20 November 2012 Accepted: 5 April 2013 ABSTRACT The genetic variability of four populations belonging to two introduced silkworm strains (Bombyx mori L.) of various origins has been studied using isoenzymic analysis of six enzyme systems. Nonspecific esterases, phosphoglucomutase, malate dehydrogenase, acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase and hexokinase from different...

An analysis of genetic variation and divergence in Indian tropical polyvoltine silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) genotypes

The genetic variation and diversity among fifty-eight polyvoltine silkworm genotypes was estimated by using ten economic traits. The results revealed that the single shell weight showed higher genetic variation such as PCV% (17.20%), GCV% (12.93%), and heritability (56.5%) followed by single cocoon weight, shell ratio and matured larval weight. The D2 (Mahalonobis? distance) statistics reveal...

DNA fingerprinting using AFLP markers to search for markers associated with yield attributes in the silkworm, Bombyx mori

This study was carried out on 11 Chinese and 12 Japanese silkworm strains maintained by the Center for the Technological Development of Sericulture (CDTS) germplasm bank, located in Pereira, Colombia. The goals were to determine the genetic population structure of the two groups and the association between molecular markers (AFLPs) and important productivity characters. Group analysis showed th...
